Active Literacy passports are signed off by teacher.
Students have the opportunity to read for 10, 20, 30 minutes.
Those who ‘tap out’ early – see Mrs. Ferguson to read aloud, check comprehension and discuss strategies.
Week 2 – Teams task
Watching the learning dispositions of students. How effectively can students collaborate, create and communicate.

Lesson objective: Who has made the most creative structure?
Answer the question in a TEEL paragraph.
TASK: To develop co-operative learning groups students are given a ‘grab bag’ and the challenge is to make the ‘most creative structure’.

Students work in co-operative groups to complete the Lesson Objective as a group, success criteria is demonstrated by the Exit slip.
Exit slips are colour coded:
Red – Just beginning…
Amber – Getting there…
Green – Got it!
Expert green – I’ve assisted someone else to ‘Get it!’

Week 3 – Withdrawal groups to unpack their Common Assessment task – Writing a ‘perfect paragraph’.
Withdrawal groups of up to 4 students come to the Active Literacy room, in teams of up to 4 from each class – Total 16 students.
1. Read the passage of text and annotate.
2. Unpack the prompt:
- Underline key words – find synonyms: visuwords.com
- What is the question/prompt asking?
- How will you answer – literal interpretation/response to the prompt
- What is your ‘big idea’ – inferential response
- Using language from the prompt, your big idea, form your topic sentence.
