• Why are these books described as page turners?

Thinking about how the characters are portrayed in your book, consider the following:

 Is the plot believable?

Are the characters placed in a situation where they have to make difficult decisions?

•   What is ‘romantic fiction’?

•    Why is it so popular?

Wordle is an online tool for generating “word clouds” from text that you provide.

You can use a wordle to respond to your book.

Use words that describe the setting, characters or plot. 

DO NOT USE NAMES!

 Words that are repeated will be larger in your word cloud.

 Choose a book by an Australian author.  After reading it, write up a brief summary of the plot.

Research the author to prepare a biography of their life and works.

Promote your favourite author

Read a novel by one of your favourite authors.

You are the Public Relations person for a publishing company. Your job is to promote your chosen author.

You will create a publicity campaign that promotes the author and his or her books.

Why is this author and his/her books interesting?

How best will you promote the author?

Some areas you could consider investigating include:

• Most popular books: which ones are the author’s most popular.

• Interesting Facts: interesting little known facts.

• Awards: any awards or honours this person has received.

• Hobbies: what does this person do when he isn’t writing.

• Personality: how would you describe this person if they were your friend.

• Issues: controversies and happenings in their life.

• Achievements: personal accomplishments.

• Obstacles: problems encountered during their life so far.

Rookie – an online magazine for girls.

Rookie is an online magazine for girls.  It invites you to add your own written material.

It’s founder and editor is a 16 year old girl, Tavi Gevinson.  She began blogging at 11, commenting on a wide range of topics including fashion and world affairs.

She felt “there wasn’t a magazine for teenage girls that respected its readers intelligence”…and so Rookie was established.
